NASI slips 1.14% on thin turnover as KPC drops 10%, Safaricom sold down
The NASI fell 1.14% to 244.72 on 2 November, with the NSE 20 and NSE 25 also lower, as 17 counters declined against 34 advancers. Turnover was thin at KES 404.5m, down 34.5% on the 20-session average. KPC led losers, down 10% to 13.50, followed by LKL and KUKZ. Gainers included XPRS, UNGA and CGEN, while the Automobiles, Commercial and Services, and Investment Services sectors outperformed. Foreign investors were net sellers at KES -80.9m, concentrated in Safaricom (SCOM), which saw Sh83.1m of foreign outflows versus modest buying in KPLC and Equity Group (EQTY), the day's most traded counter by value at Sh175.3m.
CBK Governor Kamau Thugge told Parliament that Saudi labour reforms have cut Kenya's diaspora remittances from that market by more than half in the first nine months of 2026, a factor weighing on shilling-supportive inflows. Separately, Thugge said the regulator will summon a small number of banks to explain plans for meeting the Sh5bn minimum core capital requirement, a watch-point for bank counters including those most traded on the day. The IMF has also pressed Kenya to broaden its tax base ahead of December talks rather than raise rates, a theme relevant to fiscal and bond market positioning.
