NASI falls 1.14% as KPC slides 10% on pipeline theft attempt
The NSE All-Share Index closed at 244.72, down 1.14%, with the 20-Share and Banking indices also lower. Breadth was positive, 29 counters up against 21 down, but turnover at KES 372.0 million trailed its 20-session average by 38.6%, and foreign investors were net sellers at KES -70.6 million, 19.2% of turnover, led by sales in Safaricom (SCOM) and KCB (KCB). Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) was the day's heaviest loser, down 10.00% to 12.15, while Kakuzi (KUKZ) and Limuru Tea (LIMT) led gainers. NCBA (NCBA) rose 4.26% to 91.75 despite the bank flagging slower growth ahead.
KPC's slide came as the company disclosed it had foiled an attempted illegal tap on its Mombasa pipeline, an operational risk investors in the counter will want to track. NCBA Group cut its 2026 Kenya growth forecast to 4.8% from 5.1%, citing external shocks and election-year uncertainty, a signal for portfolios exposed to bank earnings and domestic demand. Diamond Trust Bank (DTK) continued branch expansion into Isiolo, part of a broader push into underserved regional markets ahead of its 100-branch target.
